Church World Service is the relief, development, and refugee assistance ministry of 35 denominations that come together as the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S. In partnership with indigenous organizations in more than 80 countries, CWS supports sustainable self-help development, meets emergency needs, and helps address the root causes of poverty and powerlessness. Nomads On a Mission Active in Divine Service (NOMADS)
NOMADS is a part of the Mission Volunteers unit of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church for persons with recreational vehicles. NOMADS gives them the opportunity to share their time and skills for three weeks in a United Methodist related project or program, an ecumenical program, or in disaster response. United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) (800) 554-8583
UMCOR is an institutionalized unit of the United Methodist Church and part of the General Board of Global Ministries. While focusing on disaster relief and refugee resettlements, emphasis is also placed on eradicating the roots of hunger and poverty with several programs establishing training schools and giving individuals the skills to become educationally and economically self reliant. “One Great Hour of Sharing” is observed by United Methodists on the fourth Sunday of Lent. This special offering supports the ongoing work of UMCOR.
