Our Stories
In the spring of 96 we visited a couple of churches before deciding to join MUMC. We wanted a traditional church where we could be married and find a church family. Shortly after joining MUMC we were married in the Chapel by Carl Schanke. We attended regularly and soon joined the dinner club which allowed us to meet a lot of wonderful couples who graciously welcomed us into their homes. Even though some of them were already grandparents and great-grandparents they celebrated with us as we expected our first child. Logan was born in the spring of 1999 and we have since been pulled towards the church even more as we wanted him to be brought up a Christian. Later that spring he was baptized by Pastor Rhymes Moncure.
On September 11, 2001 Lisa and Logan were at a MOPS meeting at the church when our world was forever changed. Jim Bryan was there to keep them updated of the events and more importantly offered prayer. Lisa remembers thinking, “There is no better place for us to be on this tragic day in our nations’ history.”
The following year, in August of 2002, we were blessed with the birth of our daughter, Megan. That fall she was baptized by Pastor Jim Bryan with our friends and families in attendance. Since then we have been involved in several areas of the church that include committees, Sunday school, MOPS, VBS and Serendipity Choir. Lisa’s latest adventure is teaching in Megan’s Pre-K class at Discovery Days. Our lives seem to further revolve around other activities at MUMC including the holidays and Camp Jo-Ota that all serve to keep us in touch with Christ.
Lisa’s day often begins with Megan waking up and asking, “What do we have to do at the church today Mommy?” MUMC was definitely the right choice for us.
