Our Stories

As I have learned in my Disciple classes, we are suppose to venture outside of our comfort zone to bring the word of God to others. After my last Disciple class ended I heard the call of my heart to volunteer at the church. I looked at what was coming up and I decided on helping with VBS. The idea of helping with VBS was truly outside my comfort zone. I’m not married; I have no children, and have only instructed college students and faculty on computer matters. So I took off mornings during VBS 2006 to help with crafts. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I went in with an open mind and open heart. Because I was the only craft worker that was available the entire time during VBS 2006, I became the defacto leader of the craft table area for the Kindergarten through 3rd Grade classes. I managed to have a lot of fun while helping the children understand more about their relationship with God. Each afternoon I headed to work exhausted from the non-stop action of VBS, but I felt satisfied with my work. After VBS 2006 I have continued my involvement with our children by teaching Sunday school to the 2nd and 3rd graders and working the VBS again this year. In doing so I’m giving back to the church that has given me so much in the last six years. It is a real blessing and joy that I have found this church. This church has taught me a lot about myself and the love of community and God.
